Ten ancient coins that fall under the protective provisions of the law “For the protection of antiquities and cultural heritage in general” were found in the possession of two people, who were arrested by police officers of the Department of Cultural Heritage and Antiquities of the Security Directorate of Thessaloniki.
Police officers arrested a 75-year-old and a 70-year-old in a village in the municipality of Volvi, Thessaloniki, as after an investigation carried out in the presence of a court official. 10 ancient coins (ancient Greek, Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman) were found and confiscated in the house of the first individual. These fall under the protective provisions of the law according to the opinion of an archaeologist from the Antiquities Ephorate of the Region of Thessaloniki.
The persons arrested will be taken to the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Thessaloniki while the confiscated ancient coins will be sent to the Antiquities Ephorate of the Region of Thessaloniki.
