In a year plagued by constant setbacks and adversity, Vergos auction house is providing assistance to culture by organizing a charity auction the proceeds of which will go entirely to support the “Maria Callas” Greek Society.

As mentioned in the announcement, the online auction will be held via the new website www.vergosauctions.com from December 7-14, 2020. All those who wish to support the promotion of our country’s international cultural identity can participate through a simple process.

Specifically, all proceeds will go towards purchasing personal items of the world famous soprano, with the aim of enriching the collection of the “Maria Callas” Museum. The “Maria Callas” Greek Society was founded by the artist’s fans in order to create the Museum bearing her name which will be housed in Athens on 44 Mitropoleos street, in a building donated by the Municipality of Athens.

The 150 works of the very interesting collection up for auction include paintings, silkscreen prints, sculptures, as well as special posters with rare subject matter. The works come from contemporary and internationally recognized, mainly Greek,artists which include: Angelos (Panagiotou), Costas Varotsos, Chryssa, Kostis Georgiou, Mara Karetsou, Michalis Lekakis, Miltos Pantelias, Yiannis Psychopedis, Alexandros Psychoulis et al .

Part of the works of the auctioned collection is a donation from the artists themselves for the enrichment of the museum collection, while the rest of the works are donated from the personal collection of the president of the “Maria Callas” Greek Society, Liana Skourli.
