Madrilenians and visitors strolling along the streets of Madrid came upon hidden gems all over the city. Exact replicas of masterpieces from the collections of the Prado Museum – including works by Goya, El Greco, Fra Angelico and others – have been installed behind tree foliage, at airport checkpoints, on building facades and on wrought iron railings.

The Prado Museum initiative, which goes by the name “A la Vuelta de la Esquina (Just around the Corner)”, intends to “change the daily lives of citizens” by exhibiting works in “unexpected, nearby and surprising places”. (https: / /www.instagram.com/p/CPBwxKalMvg/).

It is part of a series of initiatives that aim to bring art outside the museum by dispersing works from the Prado’s collection. Previous initiatives include “The Prado in the Streets” and “Today is the Prado”.
