The European Centre for Byzantine and Post-Byzantine Monuments (EKBMM) invites the public to the photographic exhibition “Nature in Art. The Case of a Byzantine Manuscript”, organized in cooperation with the Holy Patriarchal and Stavropegic Monastery of Vlatades and the Patriarchal Foundation for Patristic Studies, in the framework of the project “ΜοΝa: Monuments in Nature: A Creative Co-existence (Intereg V_B Balkan Mediterranean 2014-2020)”.
The exhibition hosted in the Holy Patriarchal and Stavropegic Monastery of Vlatades in Thessaloniki, presents the manuscript of Dioscoridou Botanike (Codex Ω75) of the Holy Monastery of the Great Lavra, through the microfilm and slides of the archive of the Patriarchal Foundation for Patristic Studies. The aim of the exhibition is to feature this unique manuscript which consists one of the most precious byzantine cultural heirlooms of Mount Athos.
In the same time, paintings of primary and high school students, inspired by the miniatures of Ω75 Codex are exhibited. These paintings depict herbs, bushes and trees and were created in the framework of innovative educational activities of the Patriarchal Foundation for Patristic Studies during the 2020-2021 school year. The activities aimed at teaching children through experience the value of Nature for our physical and mental health as well as the influence of Nature in the perpetual voyage of Writing, Art, Science, Religion and of Culture in general.
Opening hours: Monday to Sunday 10-13:00 and 18:30 -20:30 until July 23rd, 2021. Entrance is free.
