The Acropolis Restoration Service and the Committee for the Conservation of the Acropolis Monuments, in collaboration with the General Secretariat of Culture, the Ephorate of Antiquities of Athens and the Acropolis Museum organise the 7th International Scientific Meeting for the restoration of the Acropolis monuments on the subject of “The restoration works on the Acropolis. The new Programmes”. The Meeting will take place on the 11, 12, 13 November 2021 at the Acropolis Museum and online. The main purpose of the Meeting is to present to the scientific community and the general public the current and completed projects and to discuss proposals regarding the upcoming programmes, with emphasis on the restoration projects of the western access and the walls of the Acropolis.

Due to the restrictions imposed by the pandemic, it was chosen to hold the Meeting in hybrid form. As a result, under the health protocols in force, a limited number of participants will have the opportunity to attend the Meeting in person, at the Acropolis Museum, while a larger number of participants will attend the Meeting online and submit questions through a specially designed platform. The proceedings of the Meeting will be broadcast live on the YSMA channel (YouTube: Acropolis Restoration Service).

The theme of the Meeting develops around the following thematics:

1) Report of the restoration works carried out since the 6th International Meeting and the projects conducted with the aim to upgrade the accessibility and enhance the archaeological site.

2) Analysis of theoretical approaches to the restoration of ancient monuments, historical background, and contemporary reflection.

3) Presentation of the study for the restoration of the western access to the archaeological site of the Acropolis.

4) Presentation of the Strategic Plan for the interventions on the Acropolis walls.

5) Examples from the international experience in restoration and enhancement of archaeological sites

On the second day of the Meeting (November 12) the participants at the Acropolis Museum will have the opportunity to be guided around the Acropolis and informed about the planned interventions.

The Meeting will be completed on the third day (November 13) with a discussion on the theoretical principles of monument intervention and of the proposals presented the previous days. During the first session of that day the questions submitted to the digital platform will be answered.

In parallel to the works of the Meeting, an exhibition of drawings of the studies under consideration is organised in the periodical exhibition room of the Acropolis Museum. The participants who attend the works in person at the Museum will have the opportunity to visit the exhibition

It is noted that no more people can attendthe conference in-person, at the Acropolis Museum, as the number has been locked. For in-person participants, it is emphasized that entrance will be allowed according to the health protocols in force at the time of the Meeting.
