The International Workshop on Current Research in Textile Archaeology along the Nile (second edition) will be held at the University of Copenhagen, Centre for Textile Research, Saxo Institute on 5-6 December 2022.The aim of the workshop is to bring together researchers in archaeology, but also philology and iconography to discuss issues related to textiles in Ancient Egypt and Sudan and their current state of art, from different perspectives.
The workshop will take place in Copenhagen in person on 5-6 December 2022 and it will consist of two parts: the first day of the workshop will be dedicated to presentations, while the second day will propose hands-on experiments on flax (only for speakers). The hands-on part will be conducted by spinner and weaver Marie Wallenberg and will focus on flax fibres processing and spinning according to our knowledge of the Pharaonic chaîne opératoire.
Please note that only the first day of the workshop will also be streamed live via Zoom.
Keynote speaker: Gillian Vogelsang Eastwood, Director of the Textile Research Centre of Leiden
We welcome submissions on any related topics for a twenty minutes talk, followed by a ten minutes discussion.
The language of the workshop will be English.
