Following its preliminary announcement, the Board of the Hellenic Society for Archaeometry (HSA) is announcing
the organization of the 8th Symposium on Archaeometry which will take place on the 3rd week of October 2023 at
the Byzantine and Christian Museum in Athens.

The upcoming Symposium succeeds the seven (7) previous corresponding events, having been successfully
organised by HSA and is expected to offer a prosperous ground for scientific interaction and dissemination of new
knowledge among experts from an array of scientific fields.

Title and Thematic Sections

The 8th Symposium of HSA entitled “Archaeometry Beyond Analysis: Interpretive Approaches” focuses on the Cultural Heritage of Greece, the Balkans and the Eastern Mediterranean and aims to promote the results of current research. Alongside, it aspires to constitute a springboard for the evaluation of methodologies, practices and research experience aiming at solving long-term problems and identifying future perspectives and scientific trends.

The thematic sessions of the 8th Symposium of HSA will include papers related to:
a. absolute dating and paleoenvironment
b. geophysical surveys and geoarchaeology
c. inorganic materials (ceramics, metals, vitreous materials)
d. stones, mortars and pigments
e. bioarchaeology and organic residues
f. conservation science
g. digital methods in Cultural Heritage
h. history of Archaeometry

Importantly, the Board is communicating the addition of the following to the current and future Symposia of
Archaeometry:
1. The Young Researcher Award,”Myrto Georgakopoulou”, in memory of our dear friend and colleague who left
us so early.
2. A special thematic session for young researchers (postgraduate students and postdoctoral researchers, up to 3
years from receiving their doctoral degree).

Languages of the Symposium

The official languages of the Symposium will be Greek and English. No provision for parallel translation during the
presentations will be catered for. However, colleagues who intend to present their papers in the Greek language
are requested to ensure the bilingual presentation of their work for the convenience of non-Greek speaking
participants.

Important Dates and Registration
Monday, May 15th, 2023: Submission deadline for abstracts (250-400 words).
Friday, June 30th, 2023: Notification of acceptance for paper/poster presentations.
Monday, July 31st, 2023: Early registration: Regular €120 / Students: €80.
After July 31st, the registration fee is set at €150 and €100 respectively.
Please note that it is mandatory to complete one registration payment per paper before August 31st, 2023 in order
to be included in the Symposium’s Program.
Friday, September 15th, 2023: Announcement of the Scientific program.
Third week of October, 2023: Beginning of the Symposium.

b) During the Symposium.
Payment for the registration fee can take place during the Symposium. Kindly note that, in this case, only cash
payments are feasible.

Proceedings

We would like to inform you that the preparation of the Proceedings of the 7th Symposium of HSA has been
completed and their publication is due shortly.
The Proceedings of the 8th Symposium will be published as a Special Issue in an international peer-reviewed
scientific journal.
