The Museum of Byzantine Culture (Thessaloniki) participates in the “Green Cultural Routes” for the tenth year and highlights the plant world through its exhibits. The Green Cultural Routes is a nation-wide action, organized by the Ministry of Culture and Sports. The aim is to promote the sustainable development by educating citizens on the protection and promotion of both the natural environment and the cultural wealth of the country.
In this context, the Museum of Byzantine Culture organizes the following actions:
-Thursday 25 May 2023, 12.00: thematic guided tours through the Museum’s galleries. The guided tours aim to the promotion of the presence of the plant world on items of the permanent exhibition and it is held by archaeologists of the Museum. Visitors will watch the shape and symbolism of the plants in the art of Byzantines through the items of the permanent exhibition.
-Thursday 25 May 2023, 19.00: Screening of the archaeological documentary “Ouriakos”. 48΄, 2019, directed by the archaeologist and film director Eleni Stoumpou-Katsamouri, academically curated by Nikos Eustratiou, professor of Prehistoric Archaeology at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. A discussion with the excavator will follow with an emphasis on climate change in the prehistoric Aegean and the consequent movement of populations.
-Friday 26 May 2023, 09.00: educational program for elementary school pupils in the Museum’s galleries. The program will focus on the day’s topic.
Visitors will focus on the shape and symbolism of the plants in the art of Byzantines through the items of the permanent exhibition.
For the participants in the events the entrance to the Museum will be free.
