The reading of the al-Hallabat imperial edict is one of the most exciting achievements of recent research on the cultural heritage of Jordan. This hitherto unknown Greek text is of great importance for the military history of the Limes Arabicus in the 6th century AD prior to the advent of Islam.

Thomas Maria Weber (Professor of Classical Archaeology at Mainz University) will give a lecture entitled “The Edict of Emperor Anastasius I from Al-Hallabat and the Military Defense of Byzantine Arabia in the 6th Century AD.”

The lecture is organized by the programme “Everyday and Social Life in Byzantium” of the Institute of Historical Research of the National Hellenic Research Foundation (IHR/NHRF).

When and where: Friday, January 23, 2015, at 12.00. Lecture hall, National Hellenic Research Foundation, Vas. Konstantinou, 48, Athens
