This collection of archives, the most important in Greece, was brought together by the personal effort of Manos Haritos. In 1980 it became a company. Apart from the literary and historical archives it owns, ELIA also has to show an impressive collection of photographs and maps. ELIA boasts a library of 45.000 volumes covering Greek literature, history and folklore, 19th century Greek editions, 19th and 20th century Greek magazines and calendars, Greek books printed in Egypt and Greek and foreign editions that have to do with Greece. An important part of ELIA publications has to do with the photographic reproduction of 19th and 20th century journals.
