The prehistoric settlement of Kolonna on the island of Aegina is an important place throughout the Bronze Age.
“Kolonna on Aegina. A Central Aegean Hub: Helladic, Cycladic and/or Minoan?” is the title of the lecture to be given by Walter Gauß of the Austrian Archaeological Institute at Athens in the framework of the seminars on Minoan Archaeology.
The seminar will present an overview of research and excavations conducted at the site and covers roughly a 600-year span from the later Early Bronze II period to the beginning of the Late Bronze Age. The presentation will focus are Kolonna’s connections to the neighbouring regions as well as the impact of external influences to its material culture. Particularly interesting is the attempt of the local elite to emulate selected aspects of a Minoan lifestyle.

It will be given on Fraiday, February 27, 2015, at 6.30 p.m. at the Archaeological Society of Athens (22, Panepistimiou str.).
