“Opening Roads” is the title of the temporary exhibition organized by the Ephorate of Antiquities of Pieria which will be inaugurated on Sunday, March 8, 2015, at 6.00 p.m. at the Archaeological Museum of Dion.

A series of archaeological sites is being exposed in the area of Lower Olympus of Pieria, within the parameters of the project “Design, Construction, Finance, Operation, Maintenance and Exploitation of Maliakos-Kleidi Section of PATHE Motorway”, which is being conducted since 2008 up until the present.

The exhibition presents the finds of four archaeological sites excavated during the years 2008-2013 in the area of Lower Olympus of Pieria, within the parameters of the project “Design, Construction, Finance, Operation, Maintenance and Exploitation of Maliakos-Kleidi Section of PATHE Motorway”, which is being conducted since 2008 up until the present. The finds come from the sites: Spring of Athena, Spring of Artemis, Tribina, and the Τomb of Katerini.

The displayed archaeological objects and artifacts focus mainly on the burial customs of the Middle and Late Bronze Age, the Late Classical and Hellenistic Period, and the Roman Imperial Period.

The archaeological finds are of high importance, since they redefine the existing map of the Mycenaean world, add to our knowledge about the architecture of the Macedonian tombs, and enrich our information regarding the Late Roman Period in this region.

The exhibition will last until the 5th of July 2015.
