“The Great Wonders of the World” lectures organized by the Penn Museum are a series of presentations about the seven wonders of the world and other great monuments of archaeological interest. The lectures are held on first Wednesdays at 6:00 pm. The have begun in October and will run through June 2015. However, missed lectures can be followed on YouTube.
Some of the topics addressed so far are “The Great Sphinx and the Pyramids of Giza”, “Monumental Grandeur of the Mississippi Valley”, “The Monumental Geoglyphs of Amazonia”, “Searching for the Hanging Gardens of Babylon”, “The Lighthouse of Alexandria: The Pharos in the land of Pharaohs”, “The Statue of Zeus at Olympia”, and “Chichen Itza: An Alien City in the Maya Lowlands”.
Upcoming lectures are “The Mausoleum of Halicarnassus and its Successors” and “The Great Walls of China”.
