The Institute of Classical Philology of the Faculty of Linguistics, Literature and Cultural Studies at TU Dresden, in conjunction with the award of an Alexander von Humboldt Foundation Anneliese Maier Research Prize to Professor Douglas Cairns (Edinburgh), seeks applications for one doctoral scholarship, funded for three years, starting on 1 September 2019.

Applications will be considered for research in any aspect of the following topics:

-Concepts and structures of honour in ancient Greece/Rome

-History of emotions in ancient Greece/Rome

-Invective in ancient Greek/Roman literature

The successful candidate will be jointly supervised by Prof. Dr Dennis Pausch (TU Dresden) and Professor Douglas Cairns (Edinburgh). The post will be based in Dresden but also requires one academic year’s residence (in academic year 2020–21) in Edinburgh. The post carries a scholarship of €2,250 per month.
