Rare works of Art from the Basil & Elise Goulandris Museum are being presented at goulandris.gr/en and are accessible for free web browsing from home. Digital reproductions of 148 works, images of details and audio guided tours in two languages offer users a complete picture of the art works and a new point of contact with the museum.
By web browsing the collection, users may explore works by Van Gogh, Picasso, El Greco, Monet, Rodin, Miro, Degas, Giacometti, Cezanne, Parthenis, Tsarouchis, Moralis and other names of modern and contemporary art, discover details hidden in the backgrounds of canvases and learn more about the works’ creation, their history and the lives of the artists.
Among them is the “Young dancer of fourteen”(c. 1878-1881) by Degas which caused an upheaval in sculpture at the time, “Rouen Cathedral in morning light” (pink hue) (1894), one of the most complete paintings in the series of Monet’s Cathedrals and the painting “Olive Picking” (December 1889) by Van Gogh created by the artist during his time in the psychiatric clinic at Saint-Rémy-de-Provence.

The new museum of the Basil and Elise Goulandris Foundation in Athens opened on October 2, 2019 accompanied by cultural events and educational workshops. The museum at 13 Eratosthenous Str. houses the collections of art works of the B&E Goulandris Foundation and in future will also host temporary exhibitions of Greek and International artists. Apart from exhibition spaces, the museum provides a Shop and Café – Restaurant, Art Library, Children’s Workshop as well as a state of the art Amphitheatre.
As part of the measures taken for restricting the spread of the coronavirus, the Board of Directors of the Basil and Elise Goulandris Foundation announced the temporary precautionary interruption of its museums’ operation for the public.
