Conference: “Intericonicity, Motifs Circulation and Artist Mobility” (Liège, 10-11 October 2024)
It has long been acknowledged that ancient Egyptian artists were geographically mobile. Text sources inform us that they were commissioned by the king to work in different
locations in Egypt and beyond. However, the topic has never before been subject to a deep and coherent investigation.
The workshop addresses this issue by asking the invited speakers to engage with the topic by presenting case studies from their own research, and to scrutinise the role of human actors in the circulation of concepts and ideas in ancient Egypt. The workshop will lay special emphasis on the role of ancient Egyptian artists in the circulation and composition of iconographic motifs.
The topic is a corollary of the research focus at the Ancient Egyptian Art Historical Research Unit at the University of Liège.
The two-day international workshop (10-11 October 2024) takes place at the University of Liège, Place du 20-Août 7, Bât.A1/0/72 (‘Salle Comodale’, formerly ‘Moyen Physique’).
