The DAI Athens announces the successful completion of the first phase of the ARCHAthen project, funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG).

All archival materials processed within the framework of this initially three-year project, entitled “Archives of the DAI Athens and the Archaeology of Greece” (ARCHAthen) of the funding line LIS for the Development and Digitization of Archival Sources (SP 1148/2-1), have been made available in open access. A significant part of our official records from the years 1874–1944, six selected bequests with valuable research data from renowned archaeologists, and the aerial photographs taken by the German Reich Ministry of Aviation in Greece between 1941 and 1943 are now available to researchers and the interested public without restrictions.

Specifically, this includes:

-14,917 documents of various material types

-14,006 datasets with detailed archival descriptions

-41,619 digital copies

These resources are now available, including a download function, via iDAI.archives and the supra-regional portals ARCHIVPORTAL-D and the German Digital Library.
