Within the framework of the celebrations for International Museum Day and the European Night of Museums 2015, an exhibition titled “From the Storage Rooms … selected finds from the storage rooms of the Archaeological Museum of Lemesos District” is organized at the Archaeological Museum of the Lemesos (Limassol) District. The exhibition opens on the 18th of May 2015 at 19:30 and closes on the 30th of June 2015.

The most important and attractive areas of a museum are its storage rooms. All sorts of archaeological finds are transported, sorted and studied there. It is a lively and dynamic, but at the same time silent and unseen world. Old and new finds, which for various reasons remain “forgotten”, wait for their turn to be exhibited and receive love and admiration from the public.

Humble clay vessels and statues, objects of everyday life and valuable jewelry, tools and terracotta figurines, are grouped on the shelves and the drawers of the storage rooms, according to the material they are made of. The museum’s personnel is in daily contact with this heterogeneous but exciting crowd of ancient artifacts.

The storage rooms are not usually open to the public. With this exhibition, titled “From the Storage Rooms…”, which could be better characterized as an action, the Museum attempts an “opening” of the storage rooms to the public, through exhibiting certain outstanding objects. Most of them are exhibited for the first time and some are actually very recent finds. The aim of the organizers is to please the visitor, but most significantly, to promote contact with the past and emphasise the endurance of works of art through time, as signs of hope and stability.
