The public’s great turnout during the first three days of the National Museum of Contemporary Art’s trial period of operation is best proof that the museum needed to open both for the people of Athens and for visitors to the city. The Ministry of Culture and Sports announced that more than 4,000 people of all ages have already visited the EMST since its opening, according to plan, on Friday, February 28.

172 works by 78 Greek and foreign artists are being exhibited in the Permanent Collection halls while in the Temporary Exhibitions Hall on Level 1 there is an exhibition entitled The Open EMST. The EMST and its stories, where the history of the Museum is presented through a visual timeline. The Museum’s Project Room on the third floor hosts the installation video In Vitro by Larissa Sansour and Søren Lind, a 28 minute film, which was Denmark’s official participation in the 2019 Venice Biennale.

Admission to the EMST is free during the trial period of its operation. It invites everyone to get acquainted with the Permanent Collection but also to contribute in mapping out the improvements soon to be realized in this city’s new cultural destination.
