The Department of History and Archaeology, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA), invites BA, MA, and PhD students from all CIVIS member universities for a Student Week on Urban Archaeology to take place in Athens, Greece, between 6-10 June 2021*.
The short term mobility course is collaboratively designed by the Universities of Athens, Aix Marseilles, and Stockholm.
The Course will consist of five days of lectures, classes, on-site instruction, and a student workshop on the particularities, interdisciplinary nature, and everyday challenges of fieldwork in contemporary urban environments.

*Subject to review, depending on the development of the current global pandemic. If overseas travelling and in-person teaching are not advisable, the entire course will be transferred online.
Content of the course
The Course offers insights and instruction on urban archaeology, that is an investigation of the material past of ancient towns and cities; archaeology in urban environments becomes especially pertinent in cases where habitation has been continuous since antiquity, as in the examples of Athens and Marseilles.
The Course will consist of five days of lectures, classes, on-site instruction, and a student workshop on the particularities, interdisciplinary nature, and everyday challenges of fieldwork in contemporary urban environments.
Student Week in Urban Archaeology 2021 will be hosted by the Department of History and Archaeology, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens between 6-10 June 2021.
Programme of the course:
The Athens Student Week will consist of three days of classes, followed by a day-long student workshop, and a half day of student presentations. Evening lectures and on-site activities are also included.
Evaluation: A committee of participating professors will evaluate participants, based on workshop performance and presentations, on the last day of the Course.

Conditions of application
Applications are welcome from students of archaeology and neighbouring subjects. Applicants should be BA, MA, or doctoral students at one of the CIVIS member Universities.
All tuition, instruction, evaluation, and accreditation for the course are free for participating CIVIS students; non-residents also receive airfare and daily compensation for the duration of the course.
Non-CIVIS students (BA, MA, and PhD) may also apply, subject to a €300 fee covering all tuition and ECTS certificate.
