The School of History, Classics and Archaeology of the University of Edinburgh is seeking to appoint an outstanding scholar to a Lectureship in Byzantine Studies, with a focus on Byzantine History, from 1 September 2017.

The successful candidate will have a strong track record of internationally excellent publications and clear evidence of the potential for future development at the highest level. S/he will also be expected to make a significant contribution to the teaching of Byzantine Studies at undergraduate level, in both Classics and History, as well as at postgraduate level, especially in the framework of the cross-disciplinary Master’s programme in Late Antique, Islamic and Byzantine Studies. The search will be open in terms of period and thematic interest, but with a preference for candidates who complement existing strengths in the School of History, Classics and Archaeology.

This is a full time, 35 hours, open ended post. It will be based in Classics but most teaching will be to students in both Classics and History.

Salary: £39,324- £46,924 per annum.
